DPM model segregation validation and scaling effect in a rotary drum

چکیده

Abstract Discrete phase method (DPM) model was used to analyse rotary drum systems for segregation behavior. DPM simulations were performed comparison with a dynamic experimental measurement from the literature. This included and time-averaged particle velocity field, which validated data. In addition, direct parcel scaled simulation study effect of size scaling. The dynamics evaluated using Lacey mixing index. work shows decreases increasing while keeping same size. It further that given deviate after certain scaling limit. limit also increases

Schelling’s Segregation Model: Parameters, scaling, and aggregation

Thomas Schelling proposed a simple spatial model to illustrate how, even with relatively mild assumptions on each individual’s nearest neighbor preferences, an integrated city would likely unravel to a segregated city, even if all individuals prefer integration. This agent based lattice model has become quite influential amongst social scientists, demographers, and economists. Aggregation relat...

Organic Matter Transformation during Rotary Drum Composting

Organic matter transformation using chemical and spectroscopic methods was studied for composting of four carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio waste combinations (C/N 16, C/N 22, C/N 30 and C/N 38) of grass cuttings, mix vegetable waste, cattle manure, food waste and sawdust. Temperature, moisture content, ash content, total organic matter, C/N ratio and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) concentration...

Segregation pattern competition in a thin rotating drum.

Results are presented of an experimental investigation into patterned size segregation of binary granular mixtures in a thin rotating drum that is half full. It is observed that streaks of small particles are formed within regions of large ones where the integer number of streaks is fixed over a range of rotation rate of the drum. Different patterns form in adjacent parameter ranges and the dyn...

Simulated three-component granular segregation in a rotating drum.

Discrete particle simulations are used to model segregation in granular mixtures of three different particle species in a horizontal rotating drum. Axial band formation is observed, with medium-size particles tending to be located between alternating bands of big and small particles. Partial radial segregation also appears; it precedes the axial segregation and is characterized by an inner core...

Continuum theory of axial segregation in a long rotating drum.

We develop a continuum description for the axial segregation of granular materials in a long rotating drum based on the dynamics of the thin near-surface granular flow coupled to bulk flow. The equations of motion are reduced to the one-dimensional system for two local variables only, the concentration difference and the dynamic angle of repose, or the average slope of the free surface. The par...
